Dan Crisp – Far from Here

Posted in Music Reviews on September 3rd, 2010 by admin

Dan Crisp – Far from Here – New release on est 1954 records, august 2008

I have heard a few accoustic artists, some famous, others not so. This album as a very dyamic warm sound in the recording. Although a solo album there are additional musicans making it a fine listen to the ears. This is all laid back music, very lounge, from an open mic night background. Various twin channel vocals, piano, sort drums and clean, well written lyrics.

You sometimes here music like this and yes, maybe it  does get a bit tedious after a few plays, but Dan crisp has got a fine voice, that captivates you, draws you in, makes you listen, which is the entire entice of the album. It starts off with the song hollywood and if you have never heard dan crisp before, you wonder whats going to come.  Fantasic CD sleeve artwork, pictures of distance / man of his travels, which is what the album also projects, someone on a journey. Well song 10 maybe Journeys End, but thats not the end of the album, or the story and with some addition electric guitar introduction.

What makes these songs stand out is the clear sung words, the way dan projects and a fine electric accoustic, which always has a warm feel to it when you hear one or play one. If you not into this soft accoustic music, i would say try it out, because i’m not into this all the time myself and it has certain mood all the way though the album. You maybe suprised. Aside from obvious accoustic artists that makes you think when you here this, some of this recording dynamics remind me of the song angels by Robbie Williams. Simon and Garfunkle might spring to mind, but its a different tone and sound.

The last album i heard like this is the Tim Matthews album, which all accoustic, but thats i more lent towards the rock audience, this has a completely different tone. Fine work by the recording studio, its it has fresh air feel to it, besides the photos on the album, but you can easily escape just by looking at the pictures when the music is playing. You can play this though anything, but if you a hifi purist, get your jamo’s out, you can hear it a lot clearer

Hoboud – Wskrzeszenie (hobouda)

Posted in Music Reviews on August 20th, 2010 by admin

The album centers around folklore, urban myths and campire stories surround the mischievous spirit, Hoboud( the band name). The album, Wskrzeszenie (hobouda),   is a jounrey, kind of like the irish Clannad with the instruments played and what probably springs to mind when you do hear it. Opening sounds like something from of Devil Mat Cry game, with images of a growling monster in the rain in a little village, one thing albums miss, great openings. Great harmonies it introduces you to the sound and sets the tone.

The sounds are traditional folk music, really taking you back in time, all in Polish and some naturation between songs. Guitars, violins, the sounds of folk, great vocals and great bassline on The Forester. Even if you don’t understand the language it is fun to listen to. You can switch the lights off and the opening really does put you in the mood, in a wooden tavern with flickering lights. Electric guitar flys into The Green Meadow. Nice break in the song with like a dirty harry type running bassline undercurrent. The album weaves through traditional folk and stories in the lyrics to more modern sounds though the bassline and electric instruments. The Little Wooden Church, opens with fine femal vocals and beautiful keyboard sound. The green meadow (Zielono Lonka) the most most eclectic out of all the songs on the album.

Listening to this album really puts you in a mood, yes its not in English speak, but with the music, it is like another instrument, in a sense you could say its an instrument folk album
The lyric booklet has got the words on England and Polish. I compare this music to clannad because thats what it sounds like.  With Clannad  you have a family of musicans on the album, this is what this album sounds like. The tradition is in the booklet and does sound like something out of Resident Evil, terrorising a village, then just disappearing. I heard the band music before i got sent the albnum and i knew what the music was like, but it is different when you hear it in the context of an album. I’m not a huge folk fan, but i like the Clannad type sound, more commerical and poppy than some traditional folk and this album is like that in a few ways.

One thing i like about the album, the nice digipack pack sleeve and lyric book, well made and very impreesive. You can request songs from the album because the album will be played on the station

Peasants Of Posture – Counter Revolution

Posted in Music Reviews on July 23rd, 2010 by admin

When i first heard of Peasants of Posture, it was Lamb of God and Los luminados and i did not know there was an album.  Then when i got the album thats what its sounds like.
It just a taster of the album and language that he created on the tracks above is not used all the way through, although the atmosphere from the singles, is an example if what the album is all about.

The direction here is like the Polish folk album Hoboud i reviewed, like a story being told, but this is fictional like a comic book style.  kind of simular direction to seventh son of the Seventh Son was by Iron Maiden, which was based on a comic book, but darker with the dance beat element.

The song kill the Vulcan goes rage against the machine with straight talk /rap style going on. I touch the sky is very British classic rock style, with the guitar riffs. I love great openings to songs and Slaughtered by Cattle is perfect example, a naturation then going into a great break with Counter Revolution. Maddagosontheloose and Nobodys son are the only live songs on the album, they just go into orbit, sounds like a rocket going off. Like the current single Los illuminados its a combination of industrial gothic rock with a danceflood mixture, very well produced and it does not sound commerical, like it was thrown together for the 12 year old market. This is rammstien/ Rob Zombie style rock, it is in tongue and cheek, not taken too seriously. Quincy b who is the guy behind Rasptun and the creator of the band with a full band of musicans so its not just one guy behind the name. There is a suprise at the end which is mentioned on there inner sleeve but not on the track listing

Just got to be heard and seen to be believed. This is on hard copy CD and as well download

DJ Grumpys Cranky Recommendations Volume 2

Posted in Music Reviews on June 11th, 2010 by admin
The old grump points his dirty fingers at new & exciting acts that shouldnt be missed. Here is volume 2 of powerfull bands that should reach a much greater audience – all have been and will continue to be featured on http://www.musicworldradio.com – but dont let it stop there, go check out all their respective pages and give the excellent tunes a thorough listen. Its well worth your while !

Laurier Tiernan
The world’s only 6′7″ queer vegan recording artist, as he describes himself, is a completely loony poppunker from Tokyo. The lyrics are hilarious masterpieces (in english), though I have my doubts Arnold Schwarzenegger will ever replace Obama as president ! However, the raw unpolished punk riffs are capable of making any old punk thrash around in mad hysteria whilst laughing uncontrollably at the madness going on. Give Tiernan a good old fashioned kick of a listen !
http://www.myspace.com/lauriertiernan

The Zero Point
This danish punkband was originally formed all the way back in 1979. Whilst they never reached a commercially wide audience they have always had a solid cult following, the band has toured most of Western Europe over the years and won a variety of alternative/punk awards. The Zero Point called it a day in 1987. Now the old punks are back in better shape than ever with a selection of fresh hardhitting material. This is certainly a comeback that shouldnt be missed, on air or live at the venues. Check out their compilation of old rarities “HOOLIGANS WITH CHEAP GUITARS” and not least, get your arse out to the venues – you wont be disappointed!
http://www.myspace.com/thezeropoint

Itamar
A new group of captivating talents has emerged on the british indie pop/rock scene. The name is Itamar and you may not know it now, but you most certainly will. Theyre performing delicate pieces of pop/rock with a dark edge and a genuine energy that brings back memories of the qualitative height of the new wave movements whilst still presenting a unique hope for the future. Itamar have their very own style and the vocal especially isnt to be missed, though it would be a crime to label them up too narrowly – instead, go check out excellent creations such as “Mr Right” or get yourself to one of their gigs round the UK.
http://www.myspace.com/itamarts

Tiffany Apan
Tiffany Apan has just released her debut album Poet, which is a bit of a patchy gem. She states her inspirations as Sarah Brightman & Tori Amos among others, which would usually make me reach for the sleeping pills, but luckily the grand walls of sound come with an interesting twist – a hardrocking vibe and excellently screaming guitar performances to provide the dynamics and energy so often lacking in this type of music. At her best Tiffany blows you away with atmospherical hardrock – a clear example being the wonderfully powerful Warrior (Soldier for Myself).

Loreweaver – Imperviae Auditiones

Posted in Music Reviews on June 4th, 2010 by admin

Loreweaver – Imperviae Auditiones   8 tracks

This is the band barbara Rubin joined in 2008 and there is a major different in style between the band and her solo project
Rock going towards metal. with an orchestral, meat loaf,  a bat out of hell feel, but not as commerical. All long epic songs, letting the songs breathe, none of this 3 minute radio editing that morden has that habbit of doing.

Combining two decades of sound, 90’s and present rock, the synth sounds have also travelled from her album. As an album on its own without comparing it to Barbaras influence, even though she is the lead singer, its full throttle with the softer elements of female vocals in the breaks and chorus. Definitely a stadium band, you can feel they need to be spread out onto a big stage and the sound needs it.

5 Members in the band and Barbaras harmonies are overlayed because she is the only singer, unless someone else contributes, but there is no extra credit. That night, is really a longer verson of one of Barbara Rubin songs, which should have been at the beginning of the album so you know it going onto harder rock, rather than near the end, although, the idea was probably trying to keep the band sort of seperate from Barbaras promotion, good songs, but i think at the wrong end of the album, especial as the last song is actually going back to the band sound.

Overall great epic songs, a lot going on and it really leaves you gasping for breath and your only in the third song. Url: www.myspace.com/loreweaverband

Emma Gilespie – Stamp Your Feet ( Accoustic/ U.K)

Posted in Music Reviews on May 21st, 2010 by admin

Opening with a faint guitar, like a small radio in the kitchen, then kicks in with the warm sound.  Original an accoustic number with just her voice and the guitar, but rerecorded with the label with added background effects.

The song has a theatrical performance touch it with the added instruments on the song. Has that kate bush quality, Emma has a soft voice that glides with the music she plays. She has busking background and has that laidback quality like, she is just sitting down on her house doorstep stumming away

First 3 Months – Overview by Paul ED

Posted in Music Reviews on May 14th, 2010 by admin

Now that the chart has gone into its 4th month, it is becoming clear that various artists and songs are so popular there is now only a few that stay between 9 -14 weeks ( You do not even get that with a commercial chart on sales ).

We have just two so far that have reached that.

This is very popular indeed and various artists below have songs from album releases.
In a sense the target to beat.
This is all based on 100% listener votes

The Current number 1 is Sarah Kreuz – If One Bird Sings
German female singer/ pianist who has a singing style and sounds like Mariah Carey. But will she stay there is the key to this chart

But below are the STAYERS of the chart. Some are more popular than others and some are just suprised everytone

The top of the tree at the moment

The Weasel Kickers – Carbon Neutral – number 1 twice
The uk comic punkester are from Derby. Have been at number one twice, with only 9 week under their belt and still in the top 20, but they keep going back up and have done a few times. I have also interviewed these guys and i am glad to say still around

Rudy Jr & The Lovepirates – Stupid Chick Opus8 (punk/denmark) number 1 and 14 weeks in chart
Very popular song up and down over the weeks. Rudy has been listening over the weeks. Just simple song again, simple lyrics. this goes to prove simple is always the best formula

Neongrau – Hi Level Slacker (electro/ Germany) number 1
14 weeks
I have no idea who nominated this originally. but it has suprised everyone
Simular in style to Kraftwerk, simple and just simple sampled vocals

These are climbing fast. And now appears the more the chart becomes recognised, its indicates what is popular

Fine Lyrisist with album released
MC Comeczechmi – Communist Rock (Rap/Russia)
9 week
One of hot favourites on the station, gets request on a regular bases by listeners and DJ’s. one of those quiet unique artists and very clever.

Babylon Saints – (Reggae/U.S) Burn On number 1
10 weeks
We have had a few simular acts come and go, but this one looks like staying. i have compared them to the American version of UB40, not hard guitars but bring the style with them

The Rotten Rebels – My D-Day (punk/ ireland)
11 weeks
Very missleading sound quality but very clever. Sounds like they have the radio in background and recorded it with a 1940s mic, but very popular song

These have had 100s upon 100s of votes to stay in. Some things are unpredicatable and there are suprises. One thing is for sure, as time goes on, you know what is popular and what is not

Sometimes being number is good, but you have got to stay there.
So far Neongrau is the only tune to go to number one and stay in the chart 14 weeks, which is near enough the life of the chart upto this point

Although this chart is not direct from sales, is it what the public are listening to and voting for. A lot of musicans who are in the chart have releases both CD and download and a lot are songs lifted from albums.

This chart is one of a few promotions the station has but showing what the listeners like it the main one

Many thanks and continue to vote through
www.musicworldradio.com hit the cast your vote and nominate links ot the left of the homepage

Lost Without Cause: Come On/Situation

Posted in Music Reviews on April 23rd, 2010 by admin

Lost Without cause are a three piece rock band from Watford in the UK. They have been around since 2004, and have certainly been putting the work in, playing over 200 gigs in that time; and the hard work certainly shows.

These two tracks represent a new single release, and there is no doubt they are going to make a huge impact within their genre.

The thundering drums, incredibly powerful and aggressive production, and one of the most belligerent rock bass sounds I have ever heard, are bundled into accessible and melodic songs, that owe more to recent American New Wave than traditional British Rock. Indeed, if I had not read their biography, it would never have occurred to me that they were UK based.

There is no masturbatory self referential guitar noodling to be found here. The guitarist delivers slabs of sound that are no more or less than is required for the song. The powerful classic rock vocal eschews ego boosting rock screams, for a direct and in your face delivery. But this is still undeniably rock, albeit of the polished US variety, and without the retrospection much of that genre suffers.

This is pure 2009, new and fresh, and yet that rhythm section bulldozes it beyond the new wave of pop punk, into a new age of classic rock.

The Weasel Kickers – Dont Complain

The Weasel Kickers – Dont Complain

Tracks: I didn’t Write This, Carbon Neutral, Headache, Funding the IRA, Suicide Bomb, Question Marks, middle Class Hereo, The Law, Shoot My Dog

This 9 song album, is all about real life. All with messages political or otherwise.  From obicesity messages on Funding the IRA, and i quote, ” Put the knife and Falk down”,from background everyday noise to polital messages like their taken from the BBC world service.

Great modern day punk songs, kind of like the sex pistols modernised with rough punk sounds and accoustic numbers. My choice from the album is ” The law” with the rough punk power cords and police siren effects. Weather you agree with that they say or not, great simple songs. If you like the sex pisols with more singing and more direct upfront messages, then this is the album for you

Cijay – let it be

Posted in Music Reviews on March 28th, 2010 by admin

Cijay – let it be (Julians Rock mix)( Accoustic/dance/ U.S.A)

Even though cijay is originally an accoustic artist, for some reason let is be is the only one with about 6 dance mixes and no there is not an accoustic original which is disappointing.
This dance song was written with just the use of cijays vocals and each version is better than the last in production. The vocals were put it a beat for the U.S growing commercial dance market.  Whatever you think of the remixes,( everyone has their own opinion) but Julians rock mix is the closest they have got to an accoustic mix and its not even a rock mix as it says its the best mix of the song and its a piano version and the only version that harks back to the Beatles original, with the long piano opening.

If you like your commerical dance songs, this is for you. If your are big Cijay fan and expecting an accousticer version, there is no version out. This is the best in my view of all the remixes, the production is the deepest and the best out of them. It lets the piano breathe in the song and  the best for Cijays recorded vocals
